Four times
every hour, the 25-bell carillon of this Episcopal
cathedral rings out a reminder of our Creator’s presence and
care. Whether you can literally hear them as you walk to one of
the granite office buildings of downtown, cross the river from
your loft in the East Village near the State Capitol, drive
toward the suburbs on the freeway, or just hear about
them on this web-page – know that our bells ring out a
welcome to you! The 25 cast bells of St. Paul's
are symbolic of the parish's musical heritage. In some form, they
have called the people to worship for more than 100 years.
The bells of St. Paul’s proclaim
our Christian faith beyond the walls of the church to the ears of
all, reminding us that we are one family, coming together to show
our unity in Christ. “Their sound has gone out into all lands, and
their message to the ends of the earth.”
The bells are located in the
tower, in an enclosed bell chamber; this helps soften and blend the
sound. The console or keyboard is located in a room directly below
the bell chamber, accessed by a ladder.
